Forgiveness, Faith, and Fantasy

Forgiveness holds a unique power to change lives. It can heal wounds, restore relationships, and open doors to new possibilities. When combined with faith, forgiveness becomes a foundation for personal growth and resilience. Adding fantasy into the mix allows us to imagine new realities and embrace hope beyond the limits of the present. For many of us, the present brings great challenge to make space for us to hold onto faith and forgive while we witness dark and dangerous times.

Before we continue with my blog, I'd like to share my recently published personal story interview around the subject of "Resilience" in Bold Journey Magazine. We are living in a time where resilience is needed, Click on photo for link to interview. Thank you!

Forgiveness in These Times

Forgiveness often feels difficult because it asks us to release pain and resentment. Yet, it is not about forgetting or excusing harm. Instead, forgiveness is a conscious decision to let go of anger and bitterness. This act frees the person forgiving more than the one forgiven. This is, of course, evolved thinking. It's the month of love. I viewed a joyful display of human love and compassion (at a Superbowl party of more than 50 people) displayed in a musical production by Bad Bunny. While I know nothing of football, I waited in anticipation for half time. What was not a display of love and compassion was blatant racism. Am I or are you capable of forgiving heinous acts by this morally bankrupt administration as the one we are dealing with? Maybe some can meditate out of it or look away in some manner to escape. I'm incapable of anything but fighting and speaking out against a fascist regime. I do look ahead for a reckoning, comeuppance, and real consequences. That's where my hope and faith lie in our current times. "We must stick together to make it to the other side." -Whoopi Goldberg

In general forgiveness helps us:

  • Reduce emotional burden: Holding grudges increases stress and anxiety. We're all human and do our best to remain open like the lotus flower.

  • Restore relationships: It opens the door to reconciliation and trust. I have found that I am usually the initiator and while I'm open to reconciliation with most, I made a vow to no longer accept being bread crumbed by lovers or friends.

  • Promote mental clarity: Forgiveness clears the mind, allowing better focus on positive goals.

For example, a person who forgives a past betrayal often finds peace and renewed energy to pursue meaningful relationships and personal goals. This shift in mindset creates space for faith to grow.

Faith

Faith is often described as belief in something unseen or unproven. Forgiveness nurtures faith by teaching trust in the process of healing and growth. When we forgive, we practice hope that things can improve despite past or present pain. Stick together with those you love, respect, and resonate with. It's a saving grace for me.

Forgiveness builds faith through:

  • Trust in human goodness: Recognizing that people can change and deserve second chances. However, there are those who are who they are and expecting them to change will result in disappointment.

  • Confidence in personal strength: Believing in one’s ability to overcome hurt and move forward.

  • Openness to spiritual growth: Many find that forgiveness deepens their connection to spiritual beliefs or practices. My spiritually is rooted in nature and pure moments of beauty. It restores me to feel grounded. Hummingbirds have taught me that angels exist.

Embracing Fantasy as a Path to Hope and Change

Fantasy often gets dismissed as mere escapism. Yet, it plays a vital role in how we envision better

futures. Fantasy allows us to imagine possibilities beyond current limitations, sparking creativity and hope. My personal fantasy is to escape the horrifying chaos to Tahiti in a bungalow that reaches out to the sea where I'd unplug to swim, snorkel, eat, sip espresso or a cocktail and be embraced by a

balmy breeze. My fantasy for the betterment of the world is to see trump behind bars where he belongs like any other multi-crime convicted criminal.

  • Visualizing new beginnings: Imagining life after personal and world healing encourages positive ions. I imagine a new beginning for myself and this country in my daily meditation.

  • Inspiring resilience: Fantasies of success or peace provide motivation during tough times. We all need resilience in our current times.

  • Encouraging empathy: Imagining others’ perspectives fosters understanding and compassion. It's not always easy to do but, especially if you've been deeply wounded. Having empathy for people illegally brutalized, hurt, or worse is crucial. Compassion for all living creatures expands the heart.

For instance, someone recovering from a painful experience might imagine a future where they thrive. I've had to do this many times over enduring life threatening situations resulting in PTSD. I've always been visual and use blissful visualization as a tool. Fantasy fuels faith and commitment to forgiveness. I continue to fantasize and envision the life I desire to live for the rest of my days on this fragile planet. How does visualization and fantasy play a part in your life?

Practical Steps to Integrate Forgiveness, Faith, and Fantasy

Bringing these concepts together can feel abstract. Here are practical ways to use forgiveness, faith, and fantasy in daily life:

Reflect on past hurts

Write down feelings about a painful event. Acknowledge the pain without judgment.

Choose forgiveness

Decide to release resentment, even if the other person does not apologize.

Build faith through small actions

Set achievable goals that reinforce trust in yourself and others.

Use fantasy to inspire

Create a vision board or journal about your ideal future, focusing on healing and growth.

Practice gratitude

Recognize progress and positive moments to strengthen faith.

Seek support

Talk with trusted friends, mentors, or counselors to stay grounded. I'm not sure I would survive

all that I endure in my personal life or the cruelty and corruption that runs our country if not for good friends who accept me as I am, as well as professional help. I encourage everyone to have their tribe and seek professional help when needed. Four legged friends work miracles

too.

Sending love to all. Stay well and stay safe. Happy Valentine's and Galentine's Day!

Keep on swimming through life.
